Institute of technology (also: university of technology, polytechnic university, technikon, and technical college) is a designation employed for a wide range of learning institutions awarding different types of degrees and operating often at variable levels of the educational system. It may be an institution of higher education and advanced engineering and scientific research or professional vocational education, specializing in science, engineering, and technology or different sorts of technical subjects. It may also refer to a secondary education school focused in vocational training. The term institute of technology is often abbreviated IT and is not to be confused with information technology.
The English term polytechnic appeared in the early 19th century, from the French École Polytechnique, an engineering school founded in 1794 in Paris. The French term comes from the Greek πολύ (polú or polý) meaning "many" and τεχνικός (tekhnikós) meaning "arts".
While the terms "institute of technology" and "polytechnic" are synonymous, the preference concerning which one is the preferred term varies from country to country.
Erie /ˈɪəri/ is a city located in northwestern Pennsylvania, United States. Named for the lake and the Native American tribe that resided along its southern shore, Erie is the state's fourth-largest city (after Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Allentown), with a population of 102,000. It was the third-largest city in the state until 1999. It is the 2nd largest city in Western Pennsylvania (after Pittsburgh). Erie's Metropolitan Area consists of approximately 280,000 residents and an Urbanized Area population of approximately 195,000. The city is the seat of government for Erie County and the principal city of the Erie, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Erie is near Buffalo, New York, Cleveland, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Once teeming with heavy industry, Erie's manufacturing sector remains prominent in the local economy, though service industries, healthcare, higher education, and tourism are emerging as greater economic drivers. Millions visit Erie for recreation at Presque Isle State Park, as well as attractions like the casino and horse racetrack named for the state park.
Technology ("science of craft", from Greek τέχνη, techne, "art, skill, cunning of hand"; and -λογία, -logia) is the collection of techniques, skills, methods and processes used in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation. Technology can be the knowledge of techniques, processes, etc. or it can be embedded in machines, computers, devices and factories, which can be operated by individuals without detailed knowledge of the workings of such things.
The human species' use of technology began with the conversion of natural resources into simple tools. The prehistoric discovery of how to control fire and the later Neolithic Revolution increased the available sources of food and the invention of the wheel helped humans to travel in and control their environment. Developments in historic times, including the printing press, the telephone, and the Internet, have lessened physical barriers to communication and allowed humans to interact freely on a global scale. The steady progress of military technology has brought weapons of ever-increasing destructive power, from clubs to nuclear weapons.
Graphic design is the process of visual communication, and problem-solving through the correct use of typography, space, image and color.
The field is considered a subset of visual communication and communication design, but sometimes the term "graphic design" is used interchangeably with these due to overlapping skills involved. Graphic designers use various methods to create and combine words, symbols, and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. A graphic designer may use a combination of typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce a final result. Graphic design often refers to both the process (designing) by which the communication is created and the products (designs) which are generated.
Common uses of graphic design include identity (logos and branding), publications (magazines, newspapers and books), print advertisements, posters, billboards, website graphics and elements, signs and product packaging. For example, a product package might include a logo or other artwork, organized text and pure design elements such as images, shapes and color which unify the piece. Composition is one of the most important features of graphic design, especially when using pre-existing materials or diverse elements.
Database administrators (DBAs) use specialized software to store and organize data.
The role may include Capacity planning, installation, configuration, design of database, migration, performance monitoring, security, troubleshooting, as well as backup and data recovery.
List of skills required to become database administrators are:
Database administrators benefit from a bachelor's degree or master's degree in computer science. An associate's degree or a certificate may be sufficient with work experience.

The modern front-end developers use many tools to structure and improve their applications ; frameworks – like React and Angular, one-way data flow architectures like Redux and even supersets of JavaScript like TypeScript. But what if we could rethink JavaScript from zero and create a language that is perfectly suited for actual front-end development, integrating all the good practices we’ve discovered in our search for quality? That’s what Elm is, a functional language that compiles to JavaScript. Its main strengths? The compiler error messages are limpid, performance is impressive and above all, you’ll never see a runtime error again. You can forget undefined is not a function! In short: if it compiles, it works! Let’s discover what makes this language one of the most productive and ...

"Containing garbage: The evolution of rubbish bin design in the UK and West Germany, 1945-1970s" Professor Ray Stokes, Chair in Business History, University of Glasgow A public lecture given at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, UK, on 14 January 2014. Abstract Immediately after the Second World War, the lowly rubbish bin in the UK was remarkably similar to its West German counterpart. Constructed of galvanised steel and designed to be carried and emptied into bin lorries by two men, they were also meant to contain the typical cast-offs of the pre-consumer societies, mostly cinder and ash from coal fires. During the decades that followed, and especially during the 1960s and 1970s, both countries became consumer societies: British and Germans on average enjoyed higher standard...

Guest: David Sereda TONIGHT: David Sereda is back to tell us of his latest findings about the Giza Plateau and quantum entanglement. Two objects that are quantum-entangled communicate with one another in an unknown, instantaneous manner that Einstein called 'spooky action at a distance.' It has recently been discovered that this doesn't just apply to subatomic particles. Two diamonds have been entangled, and not only that, they weren't brought together at all, but rather encoded with identical vibrations. of INCOMPeTECH.com Big Rock Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/ All music written by Kevin MacLeod License: BIG ROCK Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.c...
The Oldest Concrete In History - Geographic History. The word concrete comes from the Latin word "concretus" (meaning compact or condensed), the perfect passive participle of "concrescere", from "con-" (together) and "crescere" (to grow). Perhaps the earliest known occurrence of cement was twelve million years ago. A deposit of cement was formed after an occurrence of oil shale located adjacent to a bed of limestone burned due to natural causes. These ancient deposits were investigated in the 1960s and 1970s. On a human time-scale, small usages of concrete go back for thousands of years. The ancient Nabatea culture was using materials roughly analogous to concrete at least eight thousand years ago, some structures of which survive to this day. ERIE presents: Entheogens and dreams: Pathways or Dead Ends to Shamanic and Parapsychological Studies? w/Stanley Krippner. April 2014, San Francisco The recent interest in shamanism and parapsychological phenomena coincides with a longer interest in entheogens and nighttime dreams. This presentation will focus on how the latter could be used to study the former, as well as illuminating the mechanisms that might be involved in telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, out-of-body experiences, indigenous healing, and shamanic journeying. Dr. Krippner's contact with the intertribal medicine man Rolling Thunder, the Mazatec shaman Maria Sabina, and the Zulu sangoma Credo Mutwa will be used as examples of these interactions.
IoT devices are becoming more intelligent, cheaper and they are connected to the internet. They could also handle personal data and therefore need to be secure. On the other hand, they need full memory access. C/C++ can do this, but it’s also known to be complex and insecure memory management. Other languages (e.g. Java) protect the memory access but aren’t lightweight and it’s not possible to get full memory access. Rust is designed to have both 100% access and also be 100% secure. I will give an overview, demonstrate how Rust handles the memory access and how it can be cross-compiled to run natively on a small microcontroller and how it can be debugged on bare metal. Lars Gregori works as Technology Strategist at SAP Hybris in Munich as member of the Hybris Labs team. He is interested ...

One of the main purposes of technology is to make our lives better, by taking over mundane tasks so that we can - theoretically - be more productive in other areas. Over the past several years we’ve seen advances in facial recognition and machine learning that have been steadily making inroads into consumer software. Apple added “Faces” to Apple Photos, Google added similar, albeit much deeper cloud-based photo recognition to its consumer photography product. But is all of this a pandora's box inside of a trojan horse? In this episode, we discuss the good aspects of machine learning and photo recognition technologies. As well as the scary parts of having faceless servers analyzing, and potentially making behavior inferences based on the mountains of data gathered about our daily lives. _...
Documentaries - Future Aircraft Technology: new NASA project - Documentary 2017 The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government responsible for the civilian space program as well as aeronautics and aerospace research. President Dwight D. Eisenhower established NASA in 1958 with a distinctly civilian (rather than military) orientation encouraging peaceful applications in space science. The National Aeronautics and Space Act was passed on July 29, 1958, disestablishing NASA's predecessor, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The new agency became operational on October 1, 1958. Since that time, most US space exploration efforts have been led by NASA, including the Apollo mo...
Used in technology, photography, and decorative arts, silver is one of the most versatile metals known to man. In this episode of Modern Marvels we'll explore the methods, men and machines that extract this precious resource from the earth. In Northern Idaho's Lucky Friday mine, workers toil more than a mile underground in an around-the-clock cycle of blasting and hauling silver laden rock. While in the wilds of northern Nevada, large machines and even larger ore loads make the vast Rochester open pit mine one of the most productive silver mines in the United States. Both these facilities owe their methods to the silver strike that started it all: Nevada's famous Comstock Lode of the mid 19th Century. From some of the largest steam engines ever built, to robotic mining machines that work w...
